By the way, after a long delay for illness and injury, huff puffery is once again being perpetrated. But I'm not going to bore you with entries on it. As I think I mentioned before, the only thing more boring than working out is talking about working out.
After fighting off a thoracic ligament injury and then a cold and then maybe a low-grade flu, I'm finally starting to feel like my old self, so it's time to start re-perpetrating huff puffery on a regular schedule again. Indeed, I'd like to get it to be so regular that I no longer feel the need to bore everyone with these entries, instead having you all assume correctly that I am huffing and puffing 4-5 times a week.
Tonight, though, was 25 minutes on the elliptical, "307" calories burned. It would have been more if it weren't for time constraints, which constraints also explain why the swimming was just noodling around in the pool with the kid.

If it's not one damn thing, it's another, but nevertheless, after a week of being off due to getting my ass kicked by the flu shot, I'm back to the huff puffery.
So. Elliptical: 30 minutes, 1 sprint, "385" calories

Elliptical: 35 minutes, 3 sprints, "439" calories
Swim: I lost count and timing when I was interrupted for a dispute over whose turn it was in which lane. I think I did 500 or 600 meters (or half that, perhaps) in, uh, I dunno. Anyway I swam for a little while.

Elliptical: 32-ish minutes, 2 sprints, "382" calories
Swim: 500 meters in about 12 minutes, give or take a minute
It occurred to me that the swim figures may be off. I've been assuming that the lap pool is 50 meters. But it might be half that. *Le sigh* Anyway, whatever it is, it's more huff-puffy than working my ass off on the elliptical, so.

Elliptical: 25 minutes, two sprints, "344" calories burned. (I'm trying to push harder, get myself breathing hard, etc etc.)
Swim: Noodling around with the kid. We had a good time. I want to get him to actually swim some time, though.

Elliptical: 30 minutes, one sprint, "377" calories burned
Swim: 200 meters crawl, 50 meters backstroke, 10 minutes. Phelps still reportedly unconcerned.

Elliptical: 20 minutes, no sprint, "240" calories burned.
Swim: Freestyle (crawl), 200 meters in about 10 minutes. Michael Phelps needn't be concerned just yet.
Pretty weak, but I'm telling myself it's okay for a guy who is not just out of training, but who spent the last month and a half not working out, and also largely not moving unless it was absolutely necessary. Ye gods, though, I'm so painfully out of shape.

Forgot to post this Monday night. The rib is about 98% better - the only problem would be if I tried to lift anything heavy at arm's length in front of me, which doesn't seem likely to be a feature of any workouts in the near future. But I still really don't want to re-injure it, so Monday's workout was:
30 minutes on the exercise bike, 2-minute sprint at the end. "235" calories burned.

So you're thinking to yourself, largely because you have nothing else in your life to worry about, "hey! Why haven't we heard about some recent workout entries from dogofthefuture?"
The answer is that sometime shortly after I made the last entry, I bruised or somehow damaged a rib tendon. Doesn't sound that bad, but in fact it's painful just to take a deep breath, as well as things like walking, reaching for things, lifting my arm above my head - anything other than sitting or lying down in exactly the proper way, really. On Friday I grayed out a little bit when I was hit with a cough that came from the tail end of my cold.
The cold is gone, and there is other good health news (see next entry), and I'm getting better with this rib thing, but it's still quite, quite painful.
However I will not let this stop me in my pursuit of fitness, or at least better fitness than I have now. Look for future Huff Puff entries... er... some time soon.

40 minutes on the elliptical, two 1-minute sprints, "615" calories burned. Not too shabby considering I'm fighting a cold which has my lungs feeling like they have a brick lodged in them.
I've been going to the gym. Bleh. Although it's the Hollywood YMCA, which is actually pretty cool. Anyway. Gonna start keeping track of the workouts. I don't kid myself that anybody gives a crap, but this is more about recordkeeping and for motivation to keep going.
So today's workout: 32 minutes on the elliptical, "494" calories burned. (I don't trust the calorie counters on those things any farther than I could throw the entire machine.) Two one-minute sprints, one at 19 minutes, one at 30. This workout felt like a bit of a copout since on Friday I was able to easily do 40 minutes. may have been because the automatic heart-rate-based resistance adjuster wasn't working right (I'm getting in a bit of better shape, but I'm pretty sure my pulse was a wee smidge higher than 50 bpm.)
The pools are down for maintenance for the next couple weeks, but once they're back up I'm going to shorten my elliptical time a bit and start swimming some laps.
Anyway, bleh, boring, much more concise entries from now on.
